  1. Remove the BACK UP Micro Relay #38.
  2. Set the park brake.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  4. Move the transmission shift lever into reverse gear.
  5. Connect a test light from the back up lamp switch circuit 1524 relay terminal in the underhood electrical center and ground.

Does the test light illuminate?

  1. Disconnect the back up lamp switch (manual) connector or the park neutral position switch (auto) connector.
  2. Connect a test light between the back up lamp switch (manual) connector terminal A or the park neutral position switch (auto) connector C1 terminal C and ground.

Does the test light illuminate?

Inspect the BTSI BU Minifuse® #21 for an open.

Is the fuse open?

--

  1. Remove the BTSI BU Minifuse® #21 from the instrument panel electrical center.
  2. Connect a test light from the fuse terminal B in the instrument panel electrical center to ground.

Does the test light illuminate?

Repair the open or high resistance in the back up lamp switch feed circuit 341.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 18

Test and repair the back up lamp feed circuit 24 for a short to ground.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Test and repair the back up lamp switch circuit 1524 for a short to ground.

Repair the back up lamp switch feed circuit 341 for a short to ground.

  1. Connect a fused jumper wire between:
  2. • the back up lamp (manual) switch connector terminal A and terminal B.
    • the park neutral position (auto) switch connector C1 terminal C and terminal F.
  3. Connect a test light from the back up lamp switch circuit 1524 relay terminal in the underhood electrical center and ground.

Does the test light illuminate?

Repair the open or high resistance in back up lamp switch circuit 1524.

Replace the back up lamp switch (manual) or the park neutral position switch (auto). Refer to Backup Lamp Switch Replacement or Park/Neutral Position Switch Replacement .

Install a fused jumper wire across the back up lamp switch circuit 1524 and back up lamp feed circuit 24 relay terminals in the underhood electrical center.

With the ignition ON and the transmission in reverse, do the backup lamps illuminate?

Replace the BACK UP Micro Relay #38.

Test and repair the back up lamp feed circuit 24 for an open or high resistance.

Test and repair the back up lamp ground circuit 150 for an open or high resistance.

  1. Clear any DTCs which may have set. Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Clearing .
  2. Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
