  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn the ignition ON.
  3. Display the BCM Input Data 1.

Does the scan tool indicate the Backup Light Request is NO?

Go to Step 3

Disconnect the back up lamp (manual) switch or the park neutral position (auto) switch connector.

Do the back up lamps turn OFF?

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 4

Remove the BACK UP Micro Relay #38 from the underhood electrical center.

Do the back up lamps turn OFF?

Go to Step 7

Go to Step 9

Replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement and Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration .

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 10

Replace the back up lamp (manual) switch or the park neutral position (auto) switch. Refer to Backup Lamp Switch Replacement or Park/Neutral Position Switch Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 10

Test and repair the back up lamp switch circuit 1524 for a short to voltage.

Did you find and correct the condition?

--

Go to Step 10

Replace the BACK UP Micro Relay #38.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 10

Repair the backup lamp feed circuit 24 for a short to voltage.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 10

  1. Clear any DTCs which may have set. Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Clearing .
  2. Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Did you correct the condition?
