Did you perform the IPC Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool, select IPC special functions and command the chime ON.

Does the scan tool control the chime?

Go to Step 3

With a scan tool, attempt to establish communications with the BCM.

Does the scan tool communicate with the BCM?

Go to Step 4

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Body Control System

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. With a scan tool, observe the Key In Ignition parameter in the BCM data list.

Does the scan tool display ACTIVE?

Go to Step 5

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Remove the Key from the ignition .
  3. With a scan tool, observe the Key In Ignition parameter in the BCM data list.

Does the scan tool display INACTIVE?

--

System OK

Test the Key In Ignition circuit for a short to ground, short to voltage, or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs

Did you find and correct the condition?

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the BCM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the ignition switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs

Replace the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition Switch Lock Cylinder Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
