Data Display

The scan tool displays UTD data. This information assists in determining if the BCM is able to receive the correct data to operate the UTD system. By monitoring the data from various systems, it will determine if the BCM is sending or receiving the proper data to and from a particular system. The BCM uses data received from other systems in order to carry out UTD functions. Therefore, if the BCM receives the incorrect data from another system, the BCM may function improperly. Use the scan tool in order to review the UTD data from the system or systems responsible for that UTD data. The following tables describes where to access scan tool data that affects UTD operation:

Displayed Input Status

The scan tool displays UTD input status. Select the appropriate system's input status display in order to display the data and determine if the switched inputs can be properly interpreted. The display also indicates if the input has changed states. For example, when a door is closed, the scan tool displays the input status of the door ajar switch as INACTIVE. When the door is open, the scan tool reads ACTIVE. Use this kind of information when diagnosing a malfunction associated with a particular UTD input or an input that is shared with another system. The following tables describes where to access scan tool input information that affects UTD operation:

Cycle Outputs

Use a scan tool in order to cycle UTD output functions. The Special Functions feature will allow the scan tool can command the applicable system to cycle an output ON or OFF. This feature can be used to determine if the UTD system is causing the malfunction or if the system responsible for controlling that output is the cause. These outputs can be cycled regardless of the inputs or any specific program instructions. Once a test is selected, the scan tool will command a specific system to energize the selected output. The scan tool then displays the status of the selected output. The displayed information represents only what was commanded, not what action was actually taken. The following tables describes where to access scan tool special functions that are used in UTD operation:

BCM Scan Tool Data Definitions

The Scan Tool Data Definitions contains a brief description of all Theft Deterrent related BCM parameters available on the scan tool.

Battery Volts : The scan tool displays 0-16.0 volts. The battery voltage represents the system voltage measured at the BCM ignition feed input.

PASS-Key® Resister Signal : The scan tool displays 0-5.0 volts. The voltage level represents the PASS-Key® resistance value.

Ignition 1 : The scan tool displays ON or OFF. When the BCM detects ignition 1 is present , the scan tool will display Yes. When the BCM does not detect ignition 1, the scan tool will display OFF. This ignition switch information is sent on the serial data line to systems that relay on this information to preform certain functions (RAP, wake-up, etc.).

Ignition 2 : The scan tool displays ON or OFF. When the BCM detects ignition 2 is present , the scan tool will display Yes. When the BCM does not detect ignition 2, the scan tool will display OFF. This ignition switch information is sent on the serial data line to systems that relay on this information to preform certain functions (RAP, wake-up, etc.).

Ignition 3 : The scan tool displays ON or OFF. When the BCM detects ignition 3 is present , the scan tool will display Yes. When the BCM does not detect ignition 3, the scan tool will display OFF. This ignition switch information is sent on the serial data line to systems that relay on this information to preform certain functions (RAP, wake-up, etc.).

Key In Ignition : The scan tool displays Active or Inactive. When the BCM detects the key is IN the ignition switch, the scan tool will display Active. When the key is removed from the ignition switch, the scan tool will display Inactive.

Key Out Ignition : The scan tool displays Active or Inactive. When the BCM detects the key is OUT of the ignition switch, the scan tool will display Active. When the key is IN the ignition switch, the scan tool will display Inactive.

Theft Deterrent State : The scan tool displays the current theft deterrent state. This data represents what theft deterrent functional mode the BCM is in. The BCM enters different states based upon information received from various inputs associated with the theft deterrent system.

Pass-Key® State : The scan tool displays the current PASS-Key® state. This data represents what PASS-Key® functional mode the BCM is in. The BCM enters different PASS-Key® states based upon the information the BCM receives from the ignition switch (switch position and key resistance value).

Driver Door Ajar Switch : The scan tool displays Open or Closed. When the driver door is open, the scan tool will display Open. When the driver door is closed, the scan tool displays Closed.

Passenger Door Ajar Switch : The scan tool displays Open or Closed. When the passenger door is open, the scan tool will display Open. When the passenger door is closed, the scan tool displays Closed.

Door Key Cylinder Unlock Switch : The scan tool displays Active or Inactive. When the door lock cylinder is rotated to LOCK, the scan tool will display Active. When the door lock cylinder is released, the scan tool displays Inactive.

Hood Ajar (export) : The scan tool displays Open or Closed. When the hood is open, the scan tool will display Open. When the hood is closed, the scan tool displays Closed.

Hatch/Trunk Ajar switch : The scan tool displays Open or Closed. When the hatch/trunk is open, the scan tool will display Open. When the hatch/trunk is closed, the scan tool displays Closed.

Folding Top Ajar Switch : The scan tool displays Open or Closed. When the folding top is open, the scan tool will display Open. When the folding top is closed, the scan tool displays Closed.

Column Lock State : The scan tool displays the current column lock state. This data represents what column lock functional mode the BCM is in. The BCM enters different column lock states based upon information received from various inputs associated with the column lock system. Refer to Steering.

Column Feedback : The scan tool displays Active or Inactive. When the steering column lock motor is LOCKED, the scan tool will display Inactive. When the steering column lock motor is UNLOCKED, the scan tool displays Active.

Column Lock/Unlock A : The scan tool displays Active or Inactive. When the BCM LOCKS the steering column, the scan tool will display Active. When the BCM UNLOCKS the steering column, the scan tool displays Inactive.

Column Lock/Unlock B : The scan tool displays Active or Inactive. When the BCM UNLOCKS the steering column, the scan tool will display Active. When the BCM LOCKS the steering column, the scan tool displays Inactive.

Horn Relay Feedback : The scan tool displays Active or Inactive. When the BCM energizes the horn relay, the scan tool will display Active. When the BCM de-energizes the horn relay, the scan tool will display Inactive.
