Customer Satisfaction 99076 - Accessory (Serpentine) Drive Belt Tensioner Pulley

Subject:99076 -- Accessory (Serpentine) Drive Belt Tensioner Pulley

Models:Certain 2000 Chevrolet Corvette Model Vehicles

Completion of this campaign lifts the stop delivery order issued on October 29, 1999 (Admin Number: WIS19990094).

General Motors has decided that certain 2000 Chevrolet Corvette model may exhibit a condition in which the accessory (serpentine) drive belt tensioner pulley fails, resulting in the loss of the power steering pump, the water pump, and generator function. A Check Engine lamp will be illuminated.

    • A loss of power steering pump function will result in a loss of power steering assist.
    • A loss of water pump function will result in increasing temperature readings on the engine coolant temperature gauge and will eventually illuminate a temperature warning lamp. Driving with excessive coolant temperature can cause engine damage.
    • A loss of generator function will cause the generator gauge to indicate a no-charge condition. Reduced Power Mode will be indicated on the display and the vehicle will stop running when the battery is discharged.

To prevent the possibility of this condition occurring, dealers are to replace the accessory drive belt tensioner. The belt will be inspected for damage and will be replaced if necessary. The hood insulator will be inspected for any damage from the belt and will be replaced if necessary.

Involved vehicles have been identified by Vehicle Identification Number. Computer listings containing the complete Vehicle Identification Number, customer name and address data have been prepared, and are being furnished to involved dealers with the campaign bulletin. Dealers are to service all vehicles subject to this campaign at no charge to customers, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership, from this time forward.

Customers who have recently purchased vehicles sold from your vehicle inventory, and for which there is no customer information indicated on the dealer listing, are to be contacted by the dealer. Arrangements are to be made to make the required correction according to the instructions contained in this bulletin. This could be done by mailing to such customers a copy of the customer letter accompanying this bulletin. Campaign follow-up cards should not be used for this purpose, since the customer may not as yet have received the notification letter.

Dear Chevrolet Customer:

This notice is sent to inform you of a recall campaign that includes your vehicle.

Reason For This Recall

General Motors has decided that certain 2000 Chevrolet Corvette model may exhibit a condition in which the accessory (serpentine) drive belt tensioner pulley fails, resulting in the loss of the power steering pump, the water pump, and generator function. A Check Engine lamp will be illuminated.

What Will Be Done

To prevent the possibility of this condition occurring, your dealer will replace the accessory drive belt tensioner. The belt will be inspected for damage and will be replaced if necessary.
