Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 95727 Size: SH
  1. Remove the I/P upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  2. Remove the instrument panel cluster (IPC) to steering column bracket retaining screws.
  3. Reposition the IPC to better access the inside air temperature sensor duct.

  4. Remove the driver knee bolster bracket. Refer to Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  5. Disconnect the ignition switch lock cylinder electrical connector from the retaining tab on the side of the ignition switch.

    6. Object Number: 95717 Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the lock cylinder electrical connector.

    7. Important: Take note of how the ignition switch lock cylinder wire is wrapped around the base of the ignition switch bezel.

  7. Remove the ignition switch bezel.

    8. Carefully pull to unsnap.

  8. Remove the hazard warning switch wiring harness from the ignition switch retainer.

  9. Remove the ignition switch retaining bolts.
  10. Reposition the ignition switch downward.

  11. Disconnect the vacuum harness connectors from the mode actuator.

    12. Object Number: 295288 Size: SH
  12. Lift to release the mode actuator retaining tab and just begin to slide the actuator toward the steering column bracket.
  13. Remove the air distribution case cover bolts.
  14. Remove the air distribution case cover with the mode actuator attached.
  15. Position the pod of the mode actuator between the steering column bracket and the ignition switch housing bracket.
  16. Disconnect the mode actuator pushrod from the mode door lever and remove the actuator.
  17. Remove the mode actuator from the mode door lever.

Installation Procedure

  1. Connect the mode actuator pushrod to the mode door lever.
  2. Install the air distribution case cover to the HVAC module.

    3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the air distribution case cover screws.

    4. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 1.6 N·m (14 lb in).

  4. Position the pod of the mode actuator between the steering column bracket and the ignition switch housing bracket.
  5. Inspect that the actuator pushrod is not binding on the mode door lever.
  6. Push the actuator toward the HVAC module case to secure the retaining tab.

    7. Object Number: 295281 Size: SH
  7. Connect the vacuum harness connectors to the mode actuator.

    8. Object Number: 95715 Size: SH
  8. Position the ignition switch to the ignition switch housing bracket.
  9. Install the ignition switch retaining bolts.

    10. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 5.5 N·m (49 lb in).

  10. Install the hazard warning switch wiring harness to the ignition switch retainer.

    11. Object Number: 95717 Size: SH
  11. Install the ignition switch bezel to the switch.
    12. 11.1. Wrap the ignition switch lock cylinder wire around the base of the ignition switch bezel, as noted during removal.
    11.2. Align the bezel slots to the lock cylinder pins, then push to secure.
  12. Connect the lock cylinder electrical connector.

  13. Connect the lock cylinder electrical connector to the retaining tab on the side of the ignition switch.
  14. Install the driver knee bolster bracket. Refer to Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.

    15. Object Number: 95727 Size: SH
  15. Install the IPC into position.
  16. Install the IPC to steering column bracket retaining screws.

    17. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 3.5 N·m (31 lb in).

  17. Install the I/P upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
