Removal Procedure
Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
ā¢ | Unnecessary SIR system repairs |
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
ā¢ | Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring. |
ā¢ | If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. |
CAUTION: Be careful when you handle a sensing and diagnostic module (SDM). Do
not strike or jolt the SDM. Before applying power to the SDM:
ā¢ | Remove any dirt, grease, etc. from the mounting surface |
ā¢ | Position the SDM horizontally on the mounting surface |
ā¢ | Point the arrow on the SDM toward the front of the vehicle |
ā¢ | Tighten all of the SDM fasteners and SDM bracket fasteners to
the specified torque value |
Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause air bag deployment,
personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.
- Disable the SIR system. Refer to
Disabling the SIR System
.
- Remove the passenger knee bolster. Refer to
Passenger Knee Bolster Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the inflatable restraint I/P module harness connector.
- Disconnect the inflatable restraint I/P module pigtail connector.
- Remove the mounting fasteners (2) from the inflatable restraint I/P module.
- Remove the inflatable restraint I/P module (3) from the I/P carrier (1).
- Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period. Refer to
Inflator Module Handling and Scrapping
.
Installation Procedure
- Install the inflatable restraint I/P module (3) to the I/P carrier (1).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the mounting fasteners (2) to the inflatable restraint I/P module.
Tighten
Tighten the fasteners to 10 NĀ·m (89 lb in).
- Connect the inflatable restraint I/P module pigtail connector.
- Install the CPA to the inflatable restraint I/P module harness connector.
- Install the passenger knee bolster. Refer to
Passenger Knee Bolster Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to
Enabling the SIR System
.
