Subject:Rear Wiper Randomly Stops on Glass During Cold Weather

Models:2006 Chevrolet HHR

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some customers may comment that the rear wiper randomly stops on glass during cold weather conditions (below -20 C or 0 F). The concern may NOT be duplicated when vehicle is brought into the shop (i.e. vehicle warmed).

Recommendation/Instructions:

This condition is caused by the grease inside the motor assembly interrupting the electrical contacts during operation, thus the BCM thinks the wiper is in the park position. Replace the wiper motor with a new motor (part number 15943776), which contains a grease that is better suited for cold conditions.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
