Subject:Equipped with Trap Alert, Intermittent Horn Honk or Trunk Opens

Models:.

When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

Condition/Concern:

If the customer complaint is that intermittently the horn honks and the deck lid opens without motion detected in the trunk (which is normally necessary to activate the system), a malfunctioning sensor may be at fault; this may or may not set DTCs. Sensors are not available through GMSPO. Vehicles with a malfunctioning sensor must have the system disabled, see step 4 below. Refer to bulletin 01-08-66-004 for more information on how Trap Alert works. Reminder: Trap Alert as an option has been discontinued and sensors are not available.

Recommendation/Instructions:

There are three scenarios that might cause this condition. Check to see if the Trap Alert sensor in the trunk is enabled in the BCM(using personalization, set options).

  1. Sensor not present, system enabled: Ensure there is a jumper wire present where the sensor should be, if yes, replace the BCM and do not enable Trap Alert. If there is no jumper wire present you must create one using the following information: Use diode 8907496 and connect with stripe towards terminal 9, (circuit 744). Connect other end to terminal 11, (to ajar light circuit 737). Take a solid wire jumper and connect terminals 14 (circuit 2537)and 9 (circuit 744) together as well.
  2. Sensor not present, system not enabled: Most likely some other issue is the cause and it is not related to Trap Alert.
  3. Sensor present, system enabled: Sensors are not available and will not be available in the foreseeable future. The system may be disabled by doing the following three things: Replacing the sensor with a jumper harness you create using the procedure in step 1. Replace the BCM and DO NOT enable Trap Alert during BCM set-up. Installing safety pull strap 10446844 for anti-entrapment compliance.

The option of Trap Alert can be turned on in the BCM at any time but never turned off. Once Trap Alert is enabled BCM replacement is necessary to once again delete the option.

.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
