Subject: | Equipped with Trap Alert, Intermittent Horn Honk or Trunk Opens |
Models: | . |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom described in the PI.
If the customer complaint is that intermittently the horn honks and the deck lid opens without motion detected in the trunk (which is normally necessary to activate the system) a malfunctioning sensor may be at fault, this may or may not set DTC's. Sensors are not available through GMSPO. Vehicles with a malfunctioning sensor must have the system disabled, see step 3 below. Refer to bulletin 01-08-66-004 for more information on how Trap Alert works.
Reminder: Trap Alert as an option has been discontinued and sensors are not available.
There are three scenarios that might cause this condition. Check to see if the trap alert sensor in the trunk is enabled in the BCM (using personalization, set options).
a. Replacing the sensor with a jumper harness you create using the procedure in step 1.
b. Replace the BCM and DO NOT enable Trap Alert during BCM set-up.
c. Installing rear compartment lid latch 10304039 for anti-entrapment compliance.
The option of Trap Alert can be turned on in the BCM at any time but never turned off. Once trap alert is enabled BCM replacement is necessary to once again delete the option.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance.
