Observe the IP of the vehicle.

Inspect the cassette player for an obstruction through the cassette door.

Is an obstruction present?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ACCY or the RUN position.
  2. Turn the radio power switch ON.
  3. Using the J 39200 , backprobe the radio connector C3.
  4. Measure the voltage between terminal 7 and ground.

Is the voltage measured at the specified value?

B+

Go to Step 5

    Notice: Improper removal may damage tape player.

  1. Remove the obstruction.
  2. Inspect and clean the moving components and the cassette head or use a cleaning cassette.
  3. Insert the diagnostic test tape from the J 39916-A .

Does the test tape operate?

  1. Using the J 39200 , backprobe the radio connector C3.
  2. Measure the voltage between terminal 7 and terminal 13.

Is the voltage measured at the specified value?

B+

Go to Step 6

  1. Using the J 39200 , backprobe the radio connector.
  2. Measure the voltage between terminal 15 and ground.

Is the voltage measured at the specified value?

B+

  1. Using the J 39200 , backprobe the cassette player connector.
  2. Measure the voltage between terminal 7 and ground.

Is the voltage measured at the specified value?

B+

Remove the radio for repair. Refer to Remote Tape Player Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

  1. Using the J 39200 , backprobe the cassette player.
  2. Measure the voltage between terminal 15 and ground.

Is the voltage measured at the specified value?

B+

Go to Step 11

Repair the open in CKT 314 between the cassette player and the radio. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the cassette player connector.
  3. Disconnect radio connector C3.
  4. Using the J 39200 , measure the resistance between terminal 13 of the radio connector C3 and terminal 13 of the cassette player connector.

Is the resistance measured within the specified range?

0-2 ohms

Repair the open in CKT 1740 between the cassette player and the radio. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Using the J 39200 , measure the resistance between terminal 12 of radio connector C3 and terminal 12 of the cassette player connector.

Is the resistance measured within the specified range?

0-2 ohms

Repair the open in CKT 151 between the cassette player and the radio. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open or short to ground in CKT 1405 between the cassette player and the radio. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
