Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the left sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel. Gauges and Console.
  2. Remove the left carpet retainer. Refer to Carpet Retainer Replacement in Interior Trim.
  3. Position the carpet and sound deadener aside.
  4. Remove the PCM. Refer to Powertrain Control Module Replacement/Programming in Engine Controls.
  5. Remove the park brake lever nuts (5).
  6. Remove the park brake lever assembly (1).
  7. Disconnect the electrical connection from the lever assembly.
  8. Remove the park brake cable (3) from the lever attachment point (2).

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Parking brake adjustment is not necessary. This is a self adjusting system and damage may result from attempting to adjust or modify this system in any way. It may be necessary to adjust the rear brakes to obtain the proper tension in the system.

  1. Connect the electrical connection to the lever assembly (1).
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the park brake lever assembly.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the park brake lever nuts (5) to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  5. Install the left sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel. Gauges and Console.
  6. Position the left carpet and sound deadener.
  7. Install the left carpet retainer. Refer to Carpet Retainer Replacement in Interior Trim.
  8. Install the PCM. Refer to Powertrain Control Module Replacement/Programming in Engine Controls.
