Verify the fault is present.

Does the system operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

1. Turn OFF the ignition.
2. Disconnect the instrument cluster connector.
3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
4. With a test lamp, backprobe between the battery positive voltage circuit (1440) and a known good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 8

With a test lamp, backprobe between the battery positive voltage circuit and each ground circuit.

Does the test lamp illuminate for each ground circuit?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 7

With a test lamp, backprobe between the ignition 0 voltage circuit 1600 and a known good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 9

Go to Step 6

Repair the open or short to ground in the Ignition 0 voltage circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 11

Repair the open in the inoperative ground circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 11

Repair the open or short to ground in the battery positive voltage circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 11

Test for an open or short to ground in the battery positive voltage circuit to the BCM (CKT 1540). Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 11

Go to Step 10

Replace the instrument cluster.

Did you complete the replacement?
