Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly from the vehicle. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .
  3. Release the under hood electrical center and position aside. Refer to Underhood Electrical Center or Junction Block Replacement .

  5. Loosen the steering column brace bolts (1) behind the under hood electrical center.

  6. Object Number: 743456  Size: SH
  7. Disconnect the left IP electrical block from the left bussed electrical center.

  8. Object Number: 743458  Size: SH
  9. Disconnect the right IP electrical center (1) from the right electrical center.
  10. Remove the IP carrier from the cross vehicle beam. Refer to Instrument Panel Carrier Replacement .
  11. Remove the steering column from the vehicle. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering.
  12. Release the left and right bussed electrical centers from cross vehicle beam.

  14. Remove the bolt from the bracket joining the cross vehicle beam to the HVAC module.

  15. Object Number: 746666  Size: SH
  16. Release the Body Control Module (BCM) from the cross vehicle beam.
  17. Remove HVAC duct work from the cross vehicle beam.

  18. Object Number: 743505  Size: SH
  19. Remove the 2 remaining bolts for the steering column brace.

  20. Object Number: 291494  Size: SH
  21. Remove the nuts and bolts joining the cross vehicle beam (1) to the front of the dash (2).

  23. Remove the cross vehicle beam from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 291494  Size: SH
  1. Install the cross vehicle beam (1) to the front of the dash (2).
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the nuts and bolts for the cross vehicle beam.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the nut and bolts for the cross vehicle beam to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  5. Install the steering column mounting brace bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the steering column mounting brace bolts to 26 N·m (19 lb ft).

  7. Install HVAC duct work to the cross vehicle beam.

  9. Install the Body Control Module (BCM) to the cross vehicle beam.

  10. Object Number: 743462  Size: SH
  11. Connect the wiring harness to the cross vehicle beam.

  12. Object Number: 746415  Size: SH
  13. Install the bolt retaining the cross vehicle beam to the HVAC module.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt retaining the cross vehicle beam to the HVAC module to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  15. Install the IP carrier to the cross vehicle beam. Refer to Instrument Panel Carrier Replacement .
  16. Install the left and right bussed electrical centers to cross vehicle beam.
  17. Install the steering column to the vehicle. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering.

  18. Object Number: 743458  Size: SH
  19. Connect the right IP electrical block (1) to the right electrical center.

  20. Object Number: 743456  Size: SH
  21. Connect the left IP bussed electrical block to the left bussed electrical center.

  22. Object Number: 743509  Size: SH
  23. Tighten the steering column brace bolts (1) behind the under hood electrical center for the steering column brace.
  24. Tighten
    Tighten the steering column brace bolts to 26 N·m (19 lb ft).

  25. Install the under hood electrical center. Refer to Underhood Electrical Center or Junction Block Replacement .
  26. Install the air cleaner assembly to the vehicle. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .
  27. Connect the negative battery cable.
