Subject: | Rattle, Buzz or Clunk Noise from Vehicle Underside (Reposition Heat Shield in Front of Fuel Tank) |
Models: | 2001 Chevrolet Malibu |
Some customers may comment on a rattle, buzz or clunk from under the vehicle. This sound may be accompanied by a vibration or tapping that can be felt in the floorpan of the vehicle. The source may seem to come from the mid-point of the vehicle.
There may be insufficient clearance between the exhaust pipe and the fastener that secures the fuel tank heat shield at the forward edge of the shield.
Reposition the heat shield as described below:
Important: When applying pressure to the heat shield, make sure that force is applied at the fastener location and only to the plain metal shield. Applying force to the quilted material may distort or separate it.
