Rear Lift Gate Closing Effort - keywords air appearance hatch latch loose rear trim water

Subject:Rear Lift Gate Closing Effort

Models:2004-2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some customers may comment that the rear lift gate closing effort is too high. This may be caused by mis-adjustment of the rear lift gate latch.

Recommendation/Instructions:

To correct this condition, remove the trim panel to expose the latch. From inside the vehicle, look at how the lift gate striker enters the lift gate latch. If the striker contacts either side of the latch, adjust the latch so that the striker enters the center of the latch. Next adjust the height of the latch as high as possible without affecting the up/down flushness of the hatch to the quarter panels. After adjusting the latch, check the closing effort of the lift gate.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
