Subject: | Use of 17" or Larger Wheels/Tires on Vehicles Originally Built with 16" or Smaller Wheels/Tires |
Models: | 2006 Chevrolet Malibu, Malibu MAXX |
Important: Some 2006 model Malibus are equipped with 17" (RPO PFE) and 18" (RPO NW2) wheel and tire combinations. However, these vehicles have had their rear wheel opening flanges rolled/modified for the required additional clearance.
If you add wheels/tires that are a different size than the original equipment wheels/tires, it may affect the way the vehicle performs. Changes to vehicle performance would include braking, ride and handling characteristics, stability and resistance to rollover, and contact between the tire and body which could result in tire damage. Additionally, if your vehicle has electronic systems such as anti-lock brakes (ABS), traction control, and electronic stability control, the performance of these systems can be affected.
Caution:
• DO NOT
use 17" or larger diameter wheels on vehicles that were not originally equipped with them. Contact between the tire and body may cause tire failure during normal driving and vehicle loads. • If you add different size wheels/tires not recommended for your vehicle, the vehicle may not provide an acceptable level of performance and safety if tires not recommended for those wheels are selected. You may increase the chance that you will crash
and suffer serious injury. Only use GM-specific wheel and tire systems developed for your vehicle and have them properly installed by a GM-certified technician.
Use of these larger wheels/tires on vehicles originally built with 15" and 16" wheels/tires may cause tire-to-body contact and damage to the tire.
Vehicles originally built with 16" or smaller tires may experience contact under normal loads and road surfaces when larger diameter wheels and tires are installed.
