Subject: | 2004 Malibu (Z Body) Evap Purge Valve |
Models: | 2004 Chevrolet Malibu |
This service voice mail message is going out to all Chevrolet service managers and technicians regarding the 04 Malibu with the LX9 VIN Code 8 engine. This is to inform you to exercise caution when working around the purge valve.
Any repairs that are being performed near the purge valve will now require that the purge valve be removed from the intake manifold assembly in order to prevent the vapor nipple from being broken off. This includes, but is not limited to, vehicle battery removal and installation, transmission R&R, brake booster/master cylinder R&R and especially power steering unit repair.
We are seeing a number of these parts returned to the Warranty Parts Center with broken vapor line nipples. If the nipple were broken at the assembly plant, the vehicle would have failed the DVT end-of-line test. Investigation of vehicles with broken purge valve vapor nipples show all passed the DVT test, but were serviced for one of the previously mentioned conditions.
