Loss of Coolant

Cause

Correction

Leaking radiator

Inspect the radiator. Repair the radiator as necessary.

Faulty radiator cap

Perform the radiator cap pressure test.

Leaking coolant recovery reservoir or hose

Replace the reservoir or hose.

Loose or damaged radiator or heater hoses or connections.

Reseat the hoses. Replace the hoses or clamps as necessary.

Leaking coolant pump seal

Replace the coolant pump.

Leaking coolant pump gasket

Replace the gasket.

Improper cylinder head torque

Retighten the cylinder head bolts to specifications. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications in Engine Mechanical - 1.0L or Fastener Tightening Specifications in Engine Mechanical - 1.3L. Replace the cylinder head gasket if required.

Leaking intake manifold, cylinder head gasket, cylinder head plug, heater core or heater water valve (if equipped)

Make repairs or replace the components as necessary to correct the leak.
