Removal Procedure

J 33942-B Compressor Shaft Seal Remover

    Important: 

       • When servicing the compressor, keep dirt and other foreign material from getting on the compressor parts and into the system Clean tools and a clean work area are essential for proper service. Keep the compressor and the parts clean at all times. Any parts which are to be reassembled should be cleaned with Trichloroethane, naphtha, kerosene, or an equivalent solvent. Air dry the parts and wipe clean with a lint-free cloth.
       • All repairs and procedures for the compressor must be performed after the A/C system refrigerant has been discharged and recovered, and after the compressor has been removed from the vehicle.
       • When the compressor is removed from the vehicle for servicing, drain and discard the oil remaining in the compressor. Add 90 cc (3.0 fl oz) of new refrigerant oil when the repairs are complete.

  1. Remove the clutch assembly. Refer to Compressor Clutch Coil and/or Pulley Rim .
  2. Remove the oil felt and the retainer from the compressor drive shaft bore using a flat screwdriver.
  3. Remove the key from the drive shaft.

  5. Remove the seal snap ring (1) using snap ring pliers.

  6. Object Number: 345615  Size: SH
  7. Insert the J 33942-B into the seal.
  8. Turn the J 33942-B until the tool makes contact with the seal notches.
  9. Pull the seal away from the compressor. Discard the seal.

Installation Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 33942-B Compressor Shaft Seal Remover
    • J 34614 Compressor Shaft Seal Protector

    Object Number: 345617  Size: SH
  1. Slide the J 34614 onto the compressor drive shaft.
  2. Lubricate the new seal with 525 viscosity mineral oil.

  3. Object Number: 345618  Size: SH
  4. Engage the J 33942-B to the seal notches.
  5. Slide the seal (1) onto the compressor drive shaft.
  6. Install the new seal snap ring using snap ring pliers.
  7. Install the key into the drive shaft groove.
  8. Install the new oil felt and the retainer inside the bore
  9. Install the clutch assembly. Refer to Compressor Clutch Coil and/or Pulley Rim .
