Removal Procedure

  1. Discharge and recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Disable the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Restraints.

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4. Remove the blower case. Refer to Blower Motor and Fan Replacement .

  6. Disconnect the air conditioning (A/C) compressor control module electrical connector.
  7. Disconnect the refrigerant temperature sensor electrical connector.
  8. Remove the refrigerant inlet and the outlet pipes from the evaporator case (1).
  9. Remove the drain hose (7) from the evaporator case.
  10. Remove the following items from the vehicle:
  11. • Two mounting bolts (2)
    • One nut (3)
    • The evaporator case

  12. Release the 2 lower lock tabs from the A/C compressor control module (2). Slide the A/C compressor control module upward in order to remove the A/C compressor control module from the evaporator case.
  13. Disengage the retaining clips (1) in order to separate the two halves of the evaporator case.

  15. Separate the two halves of the evaporator case (1,3).
  16. Remove the evaporator core (2) from the evaporator case.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the evaporator core (2) to the evaporator case.
  2. Secure the upper half (3) and the lower half (1) with the retaining clips.

  4. Install the A/C compressor control module to the evaporator case.
  5. Install the evaporator case (1) to the vehicle.
  6. Secure the evaporator case with the 2 mounting bolts (2) and the nut (3).
  7. Install the drain hose (7) to the evaporator case.
  8. Install the refrigerant inlet and the outlet pipes to the evaporator case.
  9. Connect the A/C compressor control module electrical connector.
  10. Connect the refrigerant temperature sensor electrical connector.
  11. Install the blower case. Refer to Blower Motor and Fan Replacement .
  12. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Restraints.
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  15. Operate the A/C system and inspect for refrigerant leaks. Refer to Leak Testing .
