The front wiper/washer system includes the following components:

    • A wiper motor
    • A wiper linkage
    • 2 wiper arms
    • 2 wiper blade assemblies
    • 2 wiper blade rubbers
    • A washer fluid reservoir
    • A front washer pump
    • Hoses
    • Nozzles
    • A washer switch

The front wiper/washer lever controls the front wiper/washer system. The front wiper/washer lever is integrated into the combination switch. The front wiper/washer lever is located on the right side of the steering column.

Intermittent wipers are the standard equipment on all Metro models except for the 2-Door Hatchback base model.

The front wiper circuit is designed to return the wiper blades to their rest position when the wiper blades are turned OFF.

Intermittent Operations

Intermittent wiper operation is achieved when the intermittent controller condenser is charged and discharged. With the front wiper/washer lever in the INT position, the front wipers begin to operate at low speed. After the wiper motor makes one complete rotation, the condenser in the intermittent controller is discharged. Current flow to the wipers is cut off until the condenser is recharged. The condenser is recharged after approximately 6 seconds.

If the wash switch is engaged and the intermittent wipers are actuated, the wipers operate at low speed. The wipers continue to operate at low speed until you release the wash switch. The wipers then resume intermittent operation.
