Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  3. Disable the SIR System. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  4. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  5. Disconnect the rear wiper/washer electrical connector.
  6. Use a pick in order to push up on the clip on the bottom of the rear wiper/washer switch.
  7. Remove the rear wiper/washer switch from the left garnish trim panel. Refer to the illustration in Instrument Panel Description in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.

Installation Procedure

  1. Connect the rear wiper/washer electrical connector.
  2. Install the rear wiper/washer switch to the left garnish trim panel. Push in the switch until the clip engages fully.
  3. Install the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  4. Enable the SIR System. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.
