Did you perform the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor connector.
  2. Connect a fused jumper from the ECT sensor connector cavity 2 to ground.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

Does the ECT gauge indicate H?

--

Go to Step 3

Go to Step 5

Inspect for a poor connection at the ECT sensor.

Is the connection OK?

--

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 9

Replace the ECT sending unit.

Is the repair complete?

--

Go to Instrument Cluster System Check

  1. Disconnect the fused jumper from the ECT sensor connector.
  2. Disconnect the IP cluster assembly connector C1.
  3. Connect the J 39200 DMM from the IP cluster assembly connector C1 terminal 6 to the sensor connector cavity 2.
  4. Measure the resistance.

Is the resistance greater than the specified value?

2.0 ohms

Go to Step 6

Repair the open in the YEL/WHT wire between the IP cluster assembly and the ECT sensor. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Inspect the IP cluster printed circuit for the following conditions:

    • Cracks
    • Bad connections

Do the above conditions exist?

Go to Step 10

Replace the ECT gauge.

Is the repair complete?

Repair the faulty connection. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the instrument panel cluster assembly. Refer to Printed Instrument Cluster Circuit Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.
