Did you perform the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Disconnect connector C310 located beneath the rear passenger seat. Refer to Rear Seat Cushion Replacement in Seats for access.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

Does the fuel gauge indicate E?

--

Go to Step 3

Go to Step 4

With connector C310 still disconnected.

  1. Disconnect connector C300.
  2. Test for a short using a J 39200 to ground between cavity 1 (YEL/RED) wire of connector C310 (fuel harness side) and ground.

Was a short to ground condition found?

--

Go to Step 10

Go to Step 6

With connector C310 still disconnected.

  1. Disconnect the IP cluster assembly connector C3. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement for access.
  2. Disconnect the powertrain control module connector C2.
  3. Test for a short using a J 39200 to ground condition from the IP cluster connector C3 cavity 9 to ground.

Was there a short to ground condition found?

Go to Step 7

Go to Step 5

Inspect the IP cluster printed circuit for cracks and poor connections.

Is the circuit OK?

--

Go to Step 8

Go to Step 9

Replace the fuel level sensor. Refer to Fuel Level Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls.

Is the repair complete?

--

Go to Instrument Cluster System Check

Repair a short to ground in the YEL/RED wire between the following components:

    • The IP cluster assembly
    • The fuel gauge sending unit
    • The PCM

Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the fuel gauge. Refer to Fuel Gage Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

Repair the instrument cluster printed circuit. Refer to Printed Instrument Cluster Circuit Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

Repair the short to ground condition in the YEL/RED wire between connector C310 and the fuel sender assembly. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems and refer to Fuel Level Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls for access to the fuel sender assembly.
