Did you perform the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Disconnect the powertrain control module (PCM) connector C2 (VIN-9 only).
  2. Disconnect connector C310 located under the rear passenger seat.
  3. Use a J 35616-A in order to connect 1 red lead of a J 33431-C to cavity 1 of connector C310 (floor harness side).
  4. Connect the other lead to ground.
  5. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  6. Set the resistance dial of the tester to the following values:
  7. • 120 Ohms
    • 32 Ohms
    • 3 Ohms

Does the fuel gauge read the specified values?

E (120 ohms)

1/2 (32 ohms)

F(3 ohms)

  1. Disconnect the J 33431-C .
  2. Disconnect the IP cluster assembly connector C3.
  3. Connect a J 39200 from the IP cluster assembly connector C3 terminal 9 to the fuel gauge sending unit connector cavity.
  4. Measure the resistance.

Is the resistance more than the specified value?

5ohms

  1. Inspect for an open in the BLK wire from the fuel gauge sending unit to ground G400.
  2. If the wire is OK, replace the fuel gauge sending unit. Refer to Fuel Level Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Inspect for high resistance in the IP cluster printed circuit.
  2. If the resistance is OK, replace the fuel gauge. Refer to Fuel Gage Replacement .

Repair the open in the YEL/RED wire between the IP cluster assembly and the fuel gauge sending unit. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
