Did you perform the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Disconnect the ECT sensor connector.
  2. Use a J 35616-A in order to connect one RED lead of a J 33431-C to the ECT sensor connector cavity 2 and connect the other lead to ground.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  4. Set the resistance dial of the tester to the following settings:
  5. • 136ohms
    • 52ohms
    • 10ohms

Does the ECT gauge indicate a C (136ohms), midpoint between the C and the H (52ohms) and H (10ohms)?

Replace the sensor.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Disconnect the J 33431-C .
  2. Disconnect the I/P cluster assembly connector C1.
  3. Connect a J 39200 DMM from the IP cluster assembly connector C1 terminal 6 to ECT sensor connector cavity 2.
  4. Measure the resistance.

Is the measured resistance less than the specified values?

Inspect for high resistance in the IP cluster printed circuit.

Is the circuit OK?

Replace the ECT gauge.

Is the repair complete?

--

Repair the open in the YEL/WHT wire between the IP cluster assembly and the ECT sensor. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Instrument Cluster System Check

Replace the instrument cluster printed circuit. Refer to Printed Instrument Cluster Circuit Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.
