Notice: When adding fluid or making a complete fluid change, always use the
proper power steering fluid. Failure to use the proper fluid will cause hose
and seal damage and fluid leaks.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in
General Information.
- Turn the wheels all the way to the left.
- Shut the engine off.
- Add the power steering fluid to the reservoir until the level
reaches the MIN mark on the level indicator.
- Start the engine. Run the engine at a fast idle for about 15 seconds.
- Shut the engine off.
- Recheck the fluid level.
If necessary, add fluid in order to bring the level to the MIN mark
again.
- Start the engine.
- Turn the wheels from side to side 3 or 4 times in
order to bleed the power steering system.
- Shut the engine off.
- Inspect the fluid level.
Fluid with air has a light tan appearance. Eliminate this air from the
system fluid in order to obtain the normal steering action.
- Repeat this procedure until the fluid is purged of air.
- Lower the vehicle.
