The power steering fluid level is indicated by the MAX and the MIN level indicators on the reservoir.

Notice: If the power steering system has been serviced, an accurate fluid level reading cannot be obtained unless air is bled from the steering system. The air in the fluid may cause pump cavitation noise and may cause pump damage over a period of time.

Notice: When adding fluid or making a complete fluid change, always use the proper power steering fluid. Failure to use the proper fluid will cause hose and seal damage and fluid leaks.

  1. Keep the vehicle level.
  2. Turn the steering wheel from stop to stop several times with the engine idling at 1,000 RPM or less in order to boost the fluid temperature.
  3. The fluid temperature should be at 80°C (176°F).

  4. Inspect for foaming or emulsification.
  5. Foaming and emulsification indicate either the existence of air in the system or that the fluid level is too low.

  6. Verify the fluid level in the reservoir. Add fluid if needed.
