Removal Procedure
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect
the negative battery cable.
Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
• | Unnecessary SIR system repairs |
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
• | Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring. |
• | If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. |
- Disable
the SIR system. Refer to
Disabling the SIR System
in SIR.
- Pull out the instrument panel compartment (5) by pushing the stoppers
in on the left and on the right sides.
- Remove the 2 screws and the instrument panel compartment
(5).
- Remove the powertrain control module (PCM) by performing the following:
5.2. | Disconnect the 3 electrical connectors. |
- Remove the upper boot (2) of the gearshift lever from the console (3),
if equipped with a manual transaxle.

Installation Procedure
- Position the instrument
panel (1) in the vehicle. Secure the instrument panel with the 3 screws.
- Replace the upper center cover.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the instrument panel center
brace (3). Secure the center brace with the 7 bolts (2).
Tighten
Tighten the I/P center brace bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
- Install the left and the right windshield pillar trim.
- Install the antenna cable through the hold down loops.
- Connect all of the instrument panel electrical connectors.
- Install the passenger inflator module. Refer to
Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement
in SIR.
- Install the instrument cluster. Refer to
Instrument Cluster Replacement
.
- Install the steering column.
