Removal Procedure

Notice: Cap the fittings and plug the holes when servicing the fuel system in order to prevent dirt and other contaminants from entering the open pipes and passages.

Important: Always maintain cleanliness when servicing fuel system components.

    Object Number: 208795 Size: SH
  1. Relieve fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  2. Disconnect the fuel pressure regulator vacuum line.
  3. Disconnect the engine fuel return pipe from the fuel pressure regulator.
  4. Remove the fuel pressure regulator inlet O-ring and discard.

  5. Object Number: 21133 Size: SH
  6. Remove the fuel pressure regulator retaining screw.
  7. Using a shop towel to catch any spilled fuel, lift and twist the fuel pressure regulator in order to remove the fuel pressure regulator from the fuel rail.
  8. Remove the retainer and spacer bracket from rail and discard.

Installation Procedure

Caution: Connect the fuel return line before tightening the regulator attaching screw in order to prevent the regulator from rotating. Rotation of the regulator could damage the retainer and spacer bracket and lead to a fuel leak at the regulator inlet.

    Object Number: 21133 Size: SH
  1. Lubricate new pressure regulator inlet O-ring with clean engine oil and install on regulator inlet.
  2. Install the new retainer and spacer bracket into slot on fuel rail.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Reinstall the fuel pressure regulator attaching screw.
  5. Tighten
Tighten pressure regulator attaching screw to 8.5 N·m (76 lb in).

  6. Reinstall the pressure regulator to fuel rail.
  7. Connect the fuel return pipe to regulator.
  8. Tighten
Tighten engine fuel return pipe nut to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

    Object Number: 208795 Size: SH
  9. Connect the fuel pressure regulator vacuum line.
  10. Inspect and verify that retainer and spacer bracket is engaged in slots in fuel rail. Grasp and pull on regulator to ensure that it is properly seated.
  11. Tighten the fuel filler cap.
  12. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in engine electrical.
  13. Check for fuel leaks.
  14. 10.1. Turn ignition to ON position for 2 seconds.
10.2. Then turn to OFF for 10 seconds.
10.3. Turn the ignition to ON position.
10.4. Visually check the fuel system for fuel leaks.
