Removal Procedure

Caution: Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise the vehicle. Go to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in general information.
  3. Remove the driver side rear wheel and housing liner.
  4. Disconnect the hoses from canister. Mark the hoses to ensure correct installation on new canister.
  5. Important: Inspect the canister hoses for damage or deterioration. When replacing the lines, use the correct replacement part.

  6. Remove the canister to canister bracket retaining bolt.
  7. Remove the canister.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the canister.
  2. Tighten the canister to canister bracket bolt.
  3. Reconnect the hoses to canister. Make sure the connections are correct.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Reinstall the driver side housing liner and wheel assembly.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the wheel lug nuts to 140 N·m (104 lb ft).

  7. Lower the vehicle

  9. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
