Removal Procedure
Tools Required
J 37088-A Tool Set, Fuel Line Quick-Connect Separator
Important: Relieve the fuel system pressure before servicing any fuel system connection. Refer to the Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure.
- Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief
- Grasp both sides of the quick-connect fitting. Twist quick-connect fitting 1/4 turn in each direction to loosen any dirt within fitting.
- Repeat for other fuel pipe fitting.
- Blow out dirt from quick-connect fittings at both ends, using compressed air.
- Squeeze plastic tabs of male end connector.
- Pull connection apart.
- Wipe off the male pipe end using a clean shop towel.
- Clean or replace components/assemblies as required.
Caution: Wear safety glasses when using compressed air in order to prevent eye injury.
Repeat for the other fitting.
Installation Procedure
Caution: In order to reduce the risk of fire and personal injury, before connecting fuel pipe fittings, always apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the male pipe ends.
This will ensure proper reconnection and prevent a possible fuel leak. During normal operation, the O-rings located in the female connector will swell and may prevent proper reconnection if not lubricated.- Apply a few drops of clean oil to the male pipe end.
- Push both sides of the quick-connect fitting together in order to cause the retaining tabs/fingers to make sure snap into place.
- Pull on both sides of the quick connect fitting in order to make sure the connection is secure.
- Tighten the fuel fill cap.
- Reconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in engine electrical.
- Reinstall the fuel injection sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement in engine mechanical.
| 5.1. | Turn the ignition ON for 2 seconds. |
| 5.2. | Turn the ignition Off for 10 seconds. |
| 5.3. | Turn the ignition ON . |
| 5.4. | Check for fuel leaks. |
