Removal Procedure

Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

   • Air bag deployment
   • Personal injury
   • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
   • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
   • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Open the hood.
  2. Remove the radiator air upper baffle. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors in Engine Cooling.
  3. Remove the hood latch cover. Refer to Hood Latch Cover Replacement .
  4. Remove the bolts from the hood latch.
  5. Remove the hood release cable from the hood latch. Refer to Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Replacement .
  6. Remove the hood latch from the hood latch support.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the hood release cable to the hood latch. Refer to Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Replacement .
  2. Install the hood latch to the hood latch support.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the bolts to the hood latch.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the hood latch bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  6. Install the hood latch cover. Refer to Hood Latch Cover Replacement .
  7. Install the radiator air upper baffle. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors in Engine Cooling.
  8. Close the hood.
