J 41718 Sunroof Timing Pins

    Important: After removing the sunroof glass panel inspect the position of the timing hole in the cable/cam mechanism to the front screw hole used for mounting the sunroof glass panel. The position of the timing holes must be in line to each other.

  1. Remove the sunroof glass panel. Refer to Sunroof Glass Panel Replacement .
  2. Remove the sunroof actuator. Refer to Sunroof Actuator Replacement .
  3. Align the timing hole in the cable/cam mechanism to the front screw hole used for mounting the sunroof glass panel, using a small, flat-bladed tool to push the cable/cam mechanism forward or rearward.

    Important: The sunroof timing pins must not be removed until the sunroof actuator is installed.

  5. Install J 41718 through the front screw hole used for mounting the sunroof glass panel on each side of the sunroof

  7. Inspect the sunroof actuator gears for proper alignment.
  8. The position of the timing hole, located on the larger gear, must be on the centerline between the 2 gear centers. This position is the sunroof closed position.

    If the gears are improperly aligned, follow steps 1-6 with the help of an assistant:

    5.1. Reconnect the electrical connectors to the sunroof actuator without installing the sunroof actuator.
    5.2. Reconnect the electrical connector to the headliner in order to have power to the sunroof switch.
    5.3. Have the assistant operate the sunroof switch and cycle the sunroof actuator to the proper gear alignment, while you hold the sunroof actuator.
    5.4. Install the sunroof actuator. Refer to Sunroof Actuator Replacement .
    5.5. Remove J 41718 .

            Important: Do not install the sunroof glass panel.

    You may require a slight inward or outward pressure on the sunroof glass panel mounting arms in order to simulate the sunroof glass panel being installed.

    5.6. As an assistant operates the sunroof switch and cycles the sunroof actuator to all the sunroof positions, watch and inspect the operation of the sunroof.
  9. Install the sunroof glass panel. Refer to Sunroof Glass Panel Replacement .
  10. Inspect the sunroof for proper sunroof glass panel adjustment and operation.
  11. Install the headliner. Refer to Headlining Trim Panel Replacement in Interior Trim.
