Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 37043 Parking Brake Cable Release Tool


    Object Number: 175008  Size: SH
  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the cable (1) from the equalizer (2).

  3. Object Number: 492724  Size: SH
  4. Remove the cable (2) from the axle bracket (1).

  5. Object Number: 619864  Size: SH
  6. Remove the brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement in Drum Brakes
  7. Remove the parking brake cable from the brake shoe actuator.

  8. Object Number: 619866  Size: SH
  9. Remove the parking brake cable from the backing plate using the J 37043 .

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 619864  Size: SH
  1. Install the parking brake cable to the backing plate. Ensure that all of the locking tabs are through the backing plate.
  2. Install the parking brake cable to the parking brake actuator.
  3. Install the brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement in Drum Brakes.

  4. Object Number: 492724  Size: SH
  5. Install the cable (2) to the axle bracket (1).

  6. Object Number: 175008  Size: SH
  7. Connect the cable (1) to the equalizer (2).
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Notice: Parking brake adjustment is not necessary. This is a self adjusting system and damage may result from attempting to adjust or modify this system in any way. It may be necessary to adjust the rear brakes to obtain the proper tension in the system.

  10. Fully apply and release the hand brake 4-6 times in order to self adjust the system.
