Depress the brake pedal.

Does all of the stoplamps illuminate?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Is only one lamp inoperative?

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 5

  1. Inspect the power supply or ground circuit for a poor connection or an open for the inoperative lamp. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.
  2. Repair the poor connection or open in the inoperative lamp. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  3. If no fault is found, replace the inoperative lamp.

Did you complete the repair?

System OK

Inspect the 20 Amp STOP HAZ fuse.

Is the STOP HAZ fuse open?

Go to Step 13

Connect a test lamp between the battery feed circuit at the brake switch connector and ground.

Does the test lamp light?

Go to Step 7

  1. Reconnect the brake switch connector if removed.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the stoplamp switch output circuit at the brake switch connector and ground.
  3. Depress the brake pedal.

Does the test lamp light?

Go to Step 9

Repair the open or short to ground in the battery feed circuit between the fuse block and the brake switch. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

  1. Connect a test lamp between the stoplamp switch input circuit at the turn/hazard headlamp switch connector and ground.
  2. Depress the brake pedal.

Does the test lamp light?

Go to Step 11

Go to Step 12

Inspect the adjustment of the brake switch. If the adjustment is correct, replace the brake switch.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

Replace the turn/hazard headlamp switch assembly.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

Repair the open in stop lamp switch feed circuit between the brake switch and the turn/hazard headlamp switch assembly. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

  1. Disconnect the brake switch connector.
  2. Test the battery feed circuit at the brake switch connector for continuity to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Is the battery feed circuit shorted to ground?

Go to Step 14

Repair the short to ground in the battery feed circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is repair complete?

System OK

  1. Disconnect the turn/hazard headlamp switch connector.
  2. Disconnect the center high-mount stoplamp connector.
  3. Test the stoplamp switch feed circuit for continuity to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Is the stoplamp switch feed circuit shorted to ground?

Go to Step 16

Repair the short to ground in the stop lamp switch output circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the short to ground in the stop lamp switch feed circuit between the turn/hazard headlamp switch and either the left rear or right rear stoplamp. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
