Caution: As long as there is pressure in the cooling system, the temperature
can be considerably higher than the boiling temperature of the solution in
the radiator without causing the solution to boil. Removal of the pressure
cap while the engine is hot and pressure is high will cause the solution
to boil instantaneously -- possibly with explosive force -- spewing
the solution over the engine, fenders and the person removing the cap.
Draining Procedure
- Remove the high-voltage disconnect. Refer to Battery Pack Controls.
- Remove the fuel-fired heater coolant reservoir from the mounting
bracket. Refer to Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
- Place a drain pan under the radiator drain cock.
- Install a tube on the drain cock.
- Place the end of the tube in the drain pan.
- Ensure the cooling system is cool, then remove the radiator cap.
- Open the drain cock completely.
- Drain the cooling system until the flow stops.
- Close the radiator drain cock.
Filling Procedure
- Ensure the radiator drain cock is closed.
- Place a large top funnel in the radiator fill hole.
- Pour in the coolant slowly. The coolant system holds a total of
6.52 liters.
- Fill the cooling system to 12.5 mm (1/2 in) below
the fill hole.
- Start the system, allowing the coolant pump circulate the coolant.
- Add more coolant if the level drops. Ensure the coolant level
is up to the fill hole.
- Replace the radiator cap.
- Inspect the coolant level in the recovery tank. Add more coolant
if needed.
- Install the fuel-fired heater coolant reservoir to the mounting
bracket. Refer to Heater, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
- Install the high-voltage disconnect. Refer to Battery Pack Controls.
