  1. Start the engine.
  2. Place the transfer case in 2WD and test the vehicle.

Does the 4WD system disengage?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Is the 4WD indicator illuminated?

Test the four wheel drive switch signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

With the transfer case in 2WD, test the four wheel drive switch for continuity. Refer to Testing for Continuity in Wiring Systems.

Is continuity present?

Replace the four wheel drive switch. Refer to Selector Switch Replacement .

Test the axle actuator control circuits for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the front drive axle actuator pump. Refer to Electric Motor Actuator Replacement in front axle.
