With the dimmer switch in LOW, turn on the headlamps and observe the headlamps.

Did the headlamps illuminate at full intensity?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

  1. Disconnect the headlamp relay connector. Refer to Lighting Systems Components .
  2. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper between cavities 1 and 2 and observe the headlamps.

Did the headlamps illuminate at full intensity?

Go to Step 4

With the headlamp switch in HEAD, test the ground circuit at cavity 5 for continuity. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find the circuit continuous?

Go to Step 8

  1. Disconnect connector C216.
  2. With the headlamp switch in HEAD, test the switch for continuity from cavity 9 to 17. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find the circuit continuous?

Go to Step 6

Test the headlamp switch ground circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find correct the condition?

Go to Step 16

Test the headlamp relay control circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find correct the condition?

Go to Step 16

Test the battery positive voltage circuit to the headlamp relay for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find correct the condition?

Go to Step 16

Replace the headlamp relay. Refer to Headlamp Relay Replacement.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 16

Test the ground circuit to the headlamp relay for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find correct the condition?

Go to Step 16

  1. Disconnect connector C216.
  2. With the dimmer switch in LOW, test the switch for continuity from cavity 13 to 19. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find the circuit continuous?

Go to Step 13

Replace the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement .

Did you complete the repair?

Connect a 3 amp fused jumper from C216 cavity 13 to ground and observe the headlamps.

Did the headlamps illuminate?

Test the low beam control circuit to the headlamp relay for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the low beam control circuit to the headlamp switch for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
