[Dagger] The Environmental Protection Agency or the California Air Resources Board has determined that the failure to perform this maintenance item will not nullify the emission warranty or limit recall liability prior to the completion of the vehicle's useful life. We, however, urge that all recommended maintenance services be performed at the indicated intervals and the maintenance be recorded.

+ A good time to check brakes is during tire rotation. Inspect the complete system. Inspect brake lines and hoses for proper hook-up, binding, leaks, cracks, chafing, etc. Inspect disc brake pads for wear and rotors for surface condition. Also inspect drum brake linings for wear and cracks. Inspect other brake parts, including drums, wheel cylinders, calipers parking brake, etc. Check parking brake adjustment. You may need to have your brakes inspected more often if your driving habits or conditions result in frequent braking.

# Lubricate the parking brake lever and cable, suspension system and propeller shafts, and steering wheel linkage.

12 500 km (7,500 Miles)
    • Change engine oil and filter (or every 7.5 months, whichever occurs first). An Emission Control Service.
    • Rotate tires. Refer to Explanation of Scheduled Services for proper rotation pattern and additional information. See footnote +.

25 000 km (15,000 Miles)

    • Change engine oil and filter (or every 7.5 months, whichever occurs first). An Emission Control Service.
    • Inspect passenger compartment air filter.
    • Change automatic transmission fluid and filter if the vehicle is mainly driven under one or more of these conditions:
       - In heavy city traffic where the outside temperature regularly reaches 32°C (90°F) or higher.
       - In hilly or mountainous terrain.
       - When doing frequent trailer towing.
       - Uses such as found in taxi, police or delivery service
       - If vehicle is not used under any of these conditions, change the fluid and filter every 100,000 miles (166 000 km).
    • Rotate tires. Refer to Explanation of Scheduled Services for proper rotation pattern and additional information. See footnote +.
    • Inspect the valve lash (1.6L only) and adjust if necessary. An Emission Control Service.
    • Inspect propeller shafts and U-joints for looseness and damage (or every 15 months, whichever occurs first). Inspect more frequently if used off-road or for pulling a trailer. Tighten U-joint flange bolts if necessary.

37 500 km (22,500 Miles)

    • Replace passenger compartment air filter.
    • For two-wheel-drive vehicles only: Clean and repack the front wheel bearings (or at each brake relining, whichever occurs first).
    • Change automatic transmission fluid and filter if the vehicle is mainly driven under one or more of these conditions:
       - In heavy city traffic where the outside temperature regularly reaches 32°C (90°F) or higher.
       - In hilly or mountainous terrain.
       - When doing frequent trailer towing.
       - Uses such as found in taxi, police or delivery service.
       - If vehicle is not used under any of these conditions, change the fluid and filter every 100,000 miles (166 000 km).

    • Drain, flush and refill cooling system (or every 30 months, whichever occurs first). Inspect hoses. Clean radiator, condenser, pressure cap and neck. Pressure test the cooling system and pressure cap. An Emission Control Service. See footnote [Dagger].
    • Replace spark plugs. An Emission Control Service.
    • Replace air cleaner filter. An Emission Control Service.
    • Inspect the fuel tank, cap and lines for damage or leaks. Inspect fuel cap gasket for any damage. Replace parts as needed.
    • Change manual transmission fluid.
    • Change transfer case fluid.
    • Change differential fluid.
    • Replace fuel filter (or every 30 months, whichever occurs first, or sooner if filter is clogged). An Emission Control Service. See footnote [Dagger]
