Incorrect Fuel Gage Reading (Install New Fuel Tank Strap Spacers and Bolt)

Condition

Some customers may comment that after fueling their vehicle, the fuel gauge reading may be incorrect and that it appears to be stuck, indicating approximately 1/4 tank of fuel.

Cause

Inadequate clearance between the fuel level sender float arm and a baffle internal to the fuel tank may result in an actual contact condition between the arm and baffle. This contact may then result in an inaccurate input to the fuel gauge and an erroneous reading being indicated.

Correction

Install new fuel tank strap bolts and spacers contained in service kit, P/N 91175703, at the fuel tank strap to the underbody front attachments following the procedure indicated below:

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
  2. Remove and discard the left front fuel tank strap attaching bolt.
  3. Install the spacer (1) between the fuel tank strap (2) and the vehicle underbody.
  4. Install the new fuel tank strap attaching bolt (4).
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the fuel tank strap attaching bolt to 35N·m(26 lb ft).

  6. Repeat Steps 2 through 4 for the right front fuel tank strap attachment.
  7. Lower the vehicle.
