Removal Procedure
- Remove the radiator cap.
- Open the drain plug (3)
and the drain coolant to a level below the thermostat.
- Close the drain plug (3).
- Remove two bolts and the
thermostat cap (3) from the intake manifold.
- Remove the thermostat (1) and the gasket from the thermostat housing.
- Clean any gasket material, corrosion or debris from the thermostat
cap.
- Clean the intake manifold mating surfaces.
- Inspect the thermostat. Refer to
Thermostat Diagnosis
.
Installation Procedure
Important: Position the air bleed valve (2) toward the front of the vehicle.
- Install the thermostat (1).
- Install a new thermostat gasket.
- Install the thermostat cap (3) to the intake manifold.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Secure the thermostat
cap (3) with two bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the thermostat cap bolts to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).
- Fill the radiator with approved coolant. Refer to
Cooling System Draining and Filling
in this section.
- Start the engine.
- Allow the coolant to attain operating temperature (both hoses
feel warm and the coolant is flowing through the radiator).
- Check for leaks in the cooling system.
- Shut off the engine.
- Install the radiator cap.
