Removal Procedure

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

  2. Object Number: 168476 Size: SH
  3. Remove the retaining nut and the positive (+) battery cable (1) from the starter solenoid.
  4. Disconnect the starter solenoid electrical connector.
  5. Remove one nut, the upper mounting bolt and the negative (-) battery cable (3) from the starter motor assembly.
  6. Remove the lower mounting nut (3) and the starter motor assembly from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 168476 Size: SH
  1. Install the starter motor assembly to the vehicle. Secure with the lower mounting nut.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Connect the negative (-) battery cable to the starter motor assembly. Secure with the upper mounting bolt and the retaining nut.
  4. Tighten
Tighten the starter motor assembly lower mounting nut and the upper mounting bolt and retaining nut to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  5. Connect the positive (+) battery cable (2) to the starter solenoid. Secure with one nut.
  6. Tighten
Tighten the starter solenoid nut to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  7. Connect the starter solenoid electrical connector.
  8. Connect the negative (-) battery cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
  9. Tighten
Tighten the negative (-) battery cable-to-negative (-) battery terminal retainer to 5.5 N·m (48.68 lb in).
