Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Wheel Removal in Tires and Wheels.
  3. If the vehicle is equipped with an engine skid plate, remove the following components:
  4. • The four engine skid plate bolts
    • The engine skid plate

  5. Support the control arm (1) with a floor jack (2).

  7. Remove the three nuts and bolts from the control arm (1). Separate the ball stud and the control arm.

  9. Remove the stabilizer link (2) from the control arm (1) by removing one nut (12).
  10. Lower the floor jack.

  12. Remove the coil spring from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

    Important: The bottom (2) of the coil spring has a larger diameter than the top (1). Be sure to install the spring correctly.

  1. Install the coil spring to the vehicle (3).
  2. Raise the floor jack.
  3. Install the stabilizer joint to the control arm. Secure the stabilizer joint with one nut.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the stabilizer joint to the control arm. Secure the stabilizer link with one nut.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the stabilizer link-to-control arm nut to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  7. Install the control arm to the ball stud. Secure the control arm with three nuts and bolts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the ball stud nuts and bolts to 85 N·m (63 lb ft).

  9. Remove the floor jack.
  10. If the vehicle is equipped with an engine skid plate, install the following components:
  11. • The engine skid plate
    • The four engine skid plate bolts

    Tighten
    Tighten the engine skid plate bolts to 54 N·m (40 lb ft).

  12. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Wheel Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  13. Lower the vehicle.
