Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Support the transfer case and the transmission assemblies with a suitable hydraulic jack.

  3. Object Number: 167568  Size: SH
  4. Remove the two bolts (1).
  5. Separate the transfer case skid plate from the transfer case crossmember.
  6. Remove the three torque stopper mounting bolts (2) from the transfer case crossmember.

  7. Object Number: 167572  Size: SH
  8. Remove the six bolts (3) and the transfer case crossmember from the undercarriage.
  9. Remove one bolt and the transfer case rear mount (2) from the transfer case.
  10. Inspect the transfer case rear mount for excessive wear or damage. Replace as necessary.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the transfer case rear mount to the transfer case.
  2. Secure the transfer case rear mount with one bolt.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the transfer case rear mount bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the transfer case crossmember (1) to the undercarriage.
  5. Secure the transfer case crossmember with six bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the transfer case crossmember bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  7. Install the three torque stopper mounting bolts to the transfer case crossmember.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the torque stopper mounting bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  9. Install the transfer case skid plate to the transfer case crossmember.
  10. Secure the transfer case skid plate with two bolts.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the transfer case skid plate bolts to 54 N·m (40 lb ft).

  12. Remove the hydraulic transmission jack.
  13. Lower the vehicle.
