Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Clean the outside of the reservoir.
  3. Disconnect the fluid level switch electrical connector.
  4. Remove the reservoir cap and siphon the fluid from the reservoir.

  5. Object Number: 171798  Size: SH
  6. Remove the reservoir pin (1) using a hammer and a punch.

  7. Object Number: 171820  Size: SH
  8. Remove the reservoir (1) and grommets (3) from the master cylinder.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 171820  Size: SH
  1. Install the new reservoir grommets (3) into the master cylinder. Lubricate the grommets with new, clean brake fluid. Make sure the grommets are seated properly.
  2. Install the reservoir to the master cylinder.

  3. Object Number: 171798  Size: SH
  4. Install the reservoir roll pin (1) using a hammer and a punch.
  5. Connect the fluid level switch electrical connector.
  6. Refill the reservoir with brake fluid GM P/N 1052535, or equivalent.
  7. Check for fluid leakage.
  8. Connect the negative battery cable.
  9. Bleed the brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding .
