For 1990-2009 cars only
  1. Remove the power steering pump from the vehicle. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement .
  2. Mount the pump in a table vise.

  4. Remove the following components from the pump body:
  5. • The suction hose connector bolt
    • The connector
    • The O-ring

  6. Remove the pressure switch (1) from the pump.

  8. Remove the flow control valve assembly (2) from the pump.

  9. Object Number: 349474  Size: SH
  10. Remove the 4 bolts from the pump in order to remove the rear pump cover (2) and the O-ring seal (1).

  11. Object Number: 349477  Size: SH
  12. Remove the cam ring (2) from the pump.
  13. Remove the vanes (1) from the rotor.

  15. Remove the following components from the pump:
  16. • The snap ring
    • The rotor (2)
  17. Remove the shaft (1) with the pulley attached from the pump.
  18. Remove the side plate and the oil seal from the pump.

  20. Use a feeler gauge (1) in order to measure the vane to rotor clearance. The maximum vane to rotor clearance is 0.06 mm (0.0023 in).
  21. If the vane to rotor clearance is greater than the specified range, replace the pump assembly. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement .

  22. Object Number: 355314  Size: SH
  23. Use the dial calipers in order to measure the free length of the flow control valve spring (1). The free length of the spring should be within 30.5-33.5 mm (1.20-1.32 in).
  24. If the valve spring does not fall within the specifications, replace the pump assembly. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement .

  26. Inspect the following components for excessive wear:
  27. • The pump body
    • The rotor
    • The vanes
    • The flow control valve
  28. Inspect the power steering pump body for cracks or leaks.
  29. Inspect the cam ring for excessive wear.
  30. If any of the following conditions are present on the pump body or any internal part, replace the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement .
  31. • Excessive wear
    • Cracks
    • Leaks
