Removal Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 33942-B Compressor Shaft Seal Remover/Installer
    • J 34614 Compressor Shaft Seal Protector

    Important: 

       • Keep the compressor parts and the system clean while servicing the compressor. Cleanliness is essential for proper service.
       • Clean all parts with Trichloroethane, naptha, kerosene, or an equivalent solvent and air dry the parts prior to reassembly.
       • Use only lint-free cloths to wipe the parts.
       • Discharge and recover the A/C system refrigerant, and remove the compressor from the vehicle, before performing compressor repairs and procedures.
       • Drain and discard the remaining refrigerant oil when the compressor is removed from the vehicle. Add 90 ml (3.0 fl oz) of new oil when the repairs are complete.

  1. Remove the clutch assembly. Refer to Compressor Clutch Coil and/or Pulley Rim .
  2. Remove the following parts from the compressor drive shaft bore using a flat screwdriver:
  3. • The oil felt
    • The retainer
  4. Remove the key from the drive shaft.

  5. Object Number: 345614  Size: SH
  6. Remove the seal snap ring (1), using snap ring pliers.

  7. Object Number: 345615  Size: SH
  8. Insert the J 33942-B into the seal.
  9. Turn the J 33942-B until the tool makes contact with the seal notches.
  10. Pull the seal away from the compressor. Discard the seal.

Installation Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 33942-B Compressor Shaft Seal Remover/Installer
    • J 34614 Compressor Shaft Seal Protector

    Object Number: 345617  Size: SH
  1. Slide the J 34614 into the compressor shaft (1).
  2. Lubricate the new seal with 525 viscosity mineral oil.

  3. Object Number: 345618  Size: SH
  4. Engage the J 33942-B to the seal notches.
  5. Slide the J 34614 into the compressor shaft.
  6. Slide the seal into the compressor drive shaft.

  7. Object Number: 345614  Size: SH
  8. Install the new seal snap ring (1) using the snap ring pliers.
  9. Install the key into the drive shaft groove.
  10. Install the new oil felt and the retainer inside the bore.
  11. Install the clutch assembly. Refer to Compressor Clutch Coil and/or Pulley Rim .
