The rear washer system consists of the following components:

    • A washer fluid reservoir that is shared with the front wiper system
    • A washer pump that is attached to the washer fluid reservoir
    • Hoses
    • Nozzles
    • A washer switch

The washer fluid reservoir is mounted on the right fender behind the right headlamp. The rear washer is actuated through the rear wiper/washer switch located on the instrument panel, to the right of the steering column. The rear washer will operate as long as the washer switch is depressed. When the washer switch is depressed the rear wiper will operate regardless of the wiper switch position.

Washer Operation

Whenever the ignition switch is in the ON or the START position, battery voltage applies through the WIPER WASHER fuse to the rear wiper/washer switch. When you press the rear washer switch, battery voltage applies through the closed contacts of the switch to the rear washer pump and to the rear wiper motor. Because the rear washer pump permanently grounds at G104, the pump continues to operate as long as you hold the rear washer switch.

Rear Wiper Operation

Whenever the ignition switch is in the ON or START positions, battery voltage applies through the WIPER WASHER fuse to the rear wiper/washer switch. When you press the rear wiper switch, battery voltage applies through the closed contacts of the switch to the rear wiper motor. Since the rear wiper motor permanently grounds at G401, the motor operates as long as the rear wiper/washer switch is ON. The rear wiper motor also incorporates a pawl and switch assembly which allows the motor to receive battery voltage and complete the wipe cycle in the event that the rear wiper/washer switch turns OFF when the wiper is not in the PARK (down) position.
